Welcome to the second annual collection of Love Stories!!!. For the month of February I have the honor of opening up my blog to some gentleman who want to tell the internet just how much they love their wives. If you’d like to read all of the stories, click here.
Today’s story comes from Bryan to his wife Mandi. Mandi and I met doing theater together in high school. enjoy!
My story begins in a place not many people would dare go. CTI was where I first laid eyes on the wonder that is her. CTI or Correctional training institute, was the first step that we had to take to start our careers with the department of corrections. Much like all classes, we sat next to the people we knew. We came from different areas of Indiana and were hired for different positions within the corrections field. I was to become the basic officer and she was to be a counselor. The whispers from the people speaking of what to expect were overrun by the sound of high heels. I knew it was her, she was the only one that wore high heels, the standard for professional dress attire in her field. She carried herself with pride and you knew she was kind from the sound of her voice. A friend of mine nudged me with his elbow followed by ” hey man look”, but I was already ahead of him. I will never forget the feeling of euphoria when she came over to talk to us. The pounding of my heart was so hard I was surprised she couldn’t see the necklace around my neck bounce. Throughout the training she would make her way to our group, discussing the class and driving me wild.
As things go, we completed our training and went back to our lives, never forgetting the stunning, beautiful red headed woman. We fell out of contact for over year, at which time I ended up moving north and working at the max security prison in Pendleton. One day, as I was leaving work I saw a man coming in for his night shift. That man was none other than Brown. Brown was part of her group and ended up transferring to the max facility. Brown knew I liked her and each time we crossed paths he would give me updates on how she was doing. I hoped for the best for the woman I dreamed about, always wanting to know that she was doing well and for the most part she was.
Then one day I received a call. I answered, not knowing who was on the other side, and as fate would have it, it was her. She had found my number and decided to call me. The conversation, that I was all too hesitant to end, finally came to a close with her inviting me to her place to enjoy good food on the Fourth of July, which I gladly accepted. That day I saw her was so amazing. She waited for me at her front door and as I approached her I could t help but wrap my arms around her to give her a very long hug. I was happy to see her, to speak to her, but most importantly I was happy to be near her. That day turned out to be perfect with the combo of good food, good friends, fireworks and of course sitting on a blanket next to her watching the sky light up with color. The night ended with another hug, goodbyes and a victory dance soon after. The dance was due to her accepting my request to take her out on a much needed date.
That first date was amazing to say the least. We went out to dave and busters spending much of our time killing zombies and eating good food. Our first movie? Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter……… The date was almost perfect. The day came to a close with the perfect ending. I remember it so clear as if it was yesterday. My heart pounded, palms sweaty as I asked if I could kiss her and her response was “yes”. What a long soft kiss it was. Finally, after two years of waiting I finally kissed the woman that captured my eyes, heart and soul. It was worth the wait guys!!!!!! I would have waited a thousand lifetimes to have that perfect kiss again. And so, we became a couple, enjoying each other in every sense of the word. Sharing our likes and dislikes and offering new things to each other. Things such as the ren faire where she finally got me in a kilt which I ended up loving. As the time went on I knew that I had to ask her to marry me. Now I’m not sure how most men do it but I picked out a ring she mentioned she loved. I found that ring, made the purchase and began paying for it. Within that time she gave me the gift of a beautiful daughter. Just like her mom, our daughter had my heart, soul and protection.
It wasn’t long after our daughter was born that I finally paid the ring off and had it in my hands. Fellas I’m not sure how you felt but when I had that ring in my hands I felt like that little boy opening his Christmas presents first thing in the morning. I picked the perfect date………and then I picked a different date which was even better……….then I picked another date which ended up being that day lol. I ended up proposing to her, half naked, wearing nothing but a towel in the middle of the loving room as she came out of the bathroom wearing the same thing. That moment of mixed emotions rushed through me as I kneeled to the floor asking her to marry me. I gotta admit, I’m pretty sure the mail man saw us as he dropped off the mail lol. She said yes, shaking with the ring she had chosen without knowing she had chosen her wedding ring many moons ago.
We planned, prepared, asked for help and received so much for our wedding. The weather was absolutely perfect, with the sun shining, wind blowing, bagpipes playing in the background and almost every man wearing a kilt as far as your eyes could see. I’ll never forget when I saw her in that red dress. My heart filled with so much love and joy at that moment. Seeing my bride, the woman who I fell in love with four years ago finally becoming my wife. Surrounded by friends, family and good fortune we spoke true of our love for one another. Our vowels, though spoken off the top of our head, can from within. Our fire burned brighter and hotter than ever before.
I finally found her, the woman made for me. The woman that every man hopes to find but few are lucky to find. The woman that keeps you going, motivates you, keeps your feet on the ground and stands next to you through the good and bad. The one that tests your limits, as all women do, and still manages to keep you in that moment of euphoria. The love that will never die, even long after we are gone from this world. We will forever remain connected and forever remain loved by each other. Mandi, I love you with every beat of my heart. Every breath in my lungs is there for you. I stand ready to protect you always, to love you intensely, fiercely and with honor and respect. You are my Valkyrie, my angel and I’m grateful and lucky to have finally found you.
